Clostridium Difficile

“Prevention is Better than a Cure”
This comment came to mind as I thought about why we vaccinate to prevent disease. Smallpox has been eliminated from the planet and we are very near doing the same with polio. In my memory, this was a frightening disorder to contract and thankfully the vaccine has eliminated polio from the USA.

Almost 1% of the people hospitalized in the United States will contract Clostridia Difficile colitis. Its prevalence in the hospital rivals that of MRSA infections and causes similar morbidity and mortality.

We hope to conduct a study here at Clinical Research Atlanta that will be testing teh immune response to the toxins of the clostridia bacteria in an investigational vaccine. We are excited to participate and will provide you with more information as it becomes available.
